I live in North Carolina and am receiving unemployment benefits. In the beginning I opted not to have federal or state tax taken out. A form was sent to me at that time and it gave you a choice; if you didn't want it done you simply didn't return the form.

I now have decided to have them remove tax. My questions are:

1. Is it possible to do that if you opted not to from the beginning?

2. I get my benefits by direct deposit. Do they go in and take tax out retroactively from what I've already received?

Sorry for my stupidity. Any help is most appreciated as I could find no answers on the NC UE website.
