As a web designer, I'd say that you should still dress up, but a suit or business formal may not be necessary.
I'd give two guidelines: look "put together", and no jeans.
Instead of just slapping on whatever falls out of your closet (no jeans), actually coordinate an outfit. For me - a guy - that means pants (no jeans - not even fashionable ones), a fashionable shirt (not too conservative - it's not my style or personal brand) which goes with a vest or jacket and a tie. Tie? Sure - it can never hurt.
Since you are a designer and should have a sense of artistic style, reflect that in your fashion style. When I go to an interview or client meeting, I make sure I look professional, trustworthy, coordinated and smart. Your clothes reflects your personal brand.
Check out the fashion pages to get some ideas of what's new and happening. You don't need new clothes ("Beware of all enterprises that require new clothes." ~ Henry David Thoreau), but make sure everything is clean, coordinated and ironed. And don't show too much skin - no thighs, no belly and no cleavage - that goes double for the guys ;) |
