Hi all...
I have just finished a Journalism course at University and am now currently looking for work.............although surprisingly not in Journalism.
Some may say I'm being defeatus but i'd say i'm being realistic. Journalism is an extremely difficult industry to get into and i'm not sure i have what it takes to get into it, so imo its better to change career path now before its too late (im 24)
A couple of career paths that do interest me are that of photography and photo image editing. The latter interests me greatly, i find creating and designing things quite enjoyable.
The advice i guess I'm asking for is this, is it hard to get into these two professions without a degree? If so are apprenticeships the way to go? I have just been looking at this page (http://www.apprenticeships.org.uk/list/apprenticeshipsdirectory/mediaandprinting/photoimaging.htm) and by the sounds of it, it does sound pretty interesting, but again the downfall is that it will take near enough two years to gain a apprenticeship.
I'm just at a total lost here people, i'm open to all views, i need advise badly as i have no idea what im going to do with my life..............Plz help me out
Edit: Btw i'm from the UK... |

Thanks for the advice Lexa.
The problem i have is, i feel looking for something different from my degree choice is going to cause me alot of problems.
If i took a career change now and went into photojournalism, the employers would most probably not want to gamble on a employee who has no experience in the field or no educational background in the field either. I'll be far down ithe pecking order to other photojournalist's who have 1. Studied Photojournalism and 2. Have experience in it. |
