Hello, I'm a portuguese woman, 45 years old, and I decided to leave my country and immigrate to Australia to live and work.
I've a PhD in Sciences (geology), a MSc in Geophysics and a degree in Engineering Geology; in between I work in some research projects in my field.
I've been looking for jobs in specialized websites but I fount out that is quite difficult to get a job in my geology-field. I haven't answers till now.
Maybe my age, maybe my experience I don't know.
All I see is that all jobs available are in mining, petroleum or gas industry and I have no experience in these industries.

I'm still searching and I know that if I manage to get a suitable job, the employer could be my sponsor and if so it would be easier to immigrate.
That is a fact.

But I think it would be easier too if I know anyone in Australia. I don't know now where in Australia I would be working, but surely it would be comfortable to know someone and to be able to provide to the immigration services the name and address of that person and perhaps a place where I can stay.

Unfortunately, I do not know any australian person, but what I would like to know is if there is any way I could establish contact with an australian, (specially if he/her is related with geosciences).

Is there any service that could provide that kind of support ? (I know that is easy for students to get that type of help (with a family, for instance), but don't forget I'm 45 years old).

Could you give me any assistance in this point ?
