I've been looking into the prospect of becoming a primary school teacher and it's something that has interested me for a while. However, alot of websites I have seen seem to indicate that A levels are essential in order to start training.

I am 18, and I have been working full time since I decided to pull out of college in January of this year. I have 9 GCSE's above B grade, including English Language & Literature, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and Physics. I finished 4 AS levels in Septemeber of 2007, however circumstances did not allow me to complete my A level year.

I am wondering if anyone has any information about the possibilties of teacher training for persons without higher education qualifications and how I would go about getting onto a nationaly recognised training program (ITT or QTS)?

Thanks for your help.

Hi,

You will definitely need some form of higher education to get onto a university course to achieve the rest of the course. Depending on the institution you might get in on just your as-levels, most courses along these lines also require you to be in some kind of primary school as a classroom assistant/TA. This shouldn't be an issue if you are willing to volunteer in a school for 1 day a week.

Hope this helps.
