Has anyone ever left out a job on their application/resume because they were there for a very short time (like a month)?
For the current job I got, I omitted my previous job on the applications because I was only there for a month due to harassment.
They required me to do a security and credit check and said I was good.
But my job also requires me to get a license and on that application, I kept all my resumes and applications consistent, omitting the job where I got harassed. Is it possible for my current company to fire me if they realize I worked previously at a place that was not written in my application?
I wasn't that worried until I was doing the company exam where it mentioned 'legislation infractions' and up to 1 year imprisonment. That freaked me out. Is omitting a job on an application considered a legislation infraction or is it referring more to 'on the job' infractions? |

We can't give legal advice, but there are a few points I think need mentioning:
"Legal infraction" usually means breaking the law. You haven't broken any laws.
Omitting the previous job is technically leaving out some of your work history, but:
1. You were only there for a month, you were probably still on probation, and there wasn't really much to be gained by including a one month job on your application anyway. People often do leave out short term jobs, for that reason.
2. The situation with the former job was pretty grim, and you did nothing wrong in terms of leaving that job.
3. You'd be within your rights to say that the circumstances regarding leaving the other job are personally sensitive, and you didn't want that job to become an issue when going for the new one.
The real problem with "creative" work histories is when the employer is done any damage by the materials you provide with your application. In my opinion, I don't see any possibility of an injury being done to your present employer by omitting that miserable episode. |
