I'm in NZ, and work for the only private medical lab in the region. I get paid squat compared to the people i work with, yet i have more responsibility and do more than most.

I have recently been alerted to another lab that may have vacancies soon and that pays much much better.

I am wanting to know whether i should let my current employer know i am looking elsewhere for another job due to the money issue, so they could negotiate a deal with me to stay.

Any advice or opinion is greatly appreciated.

See what the other company has to offer first, and make sure they give you a good offer before giving your current employer a chance to counter. Pulling a bluff or moving before being certain that the other company wants you could be a very poor move, as sometimes they tend to get upset and even dismiss employees for looking for a new job. You never know how an employer might react. So, tread carefully.
