Hi,

Im 24 years old living in Portsmouth, uk. I am degree educated with a 2:2 in computer animation.

For the past 2 years I have been working as an Architectural 3d Visualiser, unfortunately I have found that I don't really enjoy it plus the fact that the industry in my opinion is on its way out.

I also have come to the conclusion that I do not want to be stuck at a desk for the rest of my life either, just don't think I can hack it!

My question is this, is it possible for a 24 year old to retrain as something completely different? I would like to be a gas engineer or electrician but am having a hard time finding someone to take me on.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated?

Yes, it is possible to start up a new career. Have a look at our Starting a New Career articles, they could have been written for you.

Desk jobs aren't for everybody.

At your age you can also still consider apprenticeships, traineeships, and internships.

Shop around first. You'll find the Starting a New Career guide refers to your own interests and preferences. That's definitely your most reliable guide to what you want.

People do a lot better in careers where they're strongly motivated, so you may well be preventing a career disaster by making a move.

You've obviously got skills to work with Architecture 3D, and even if it's on the way out, 3D itself is just starting. Take some time, think it through, read the Starting a New Career stuff, and see if you can find out exactly where you want to go.
