| I interviewed for a position late last month in July. The position is great and the company is exactly where I want to be working. Before I left I asked the interviewer when they would be making a decision by. She told me by the end of next week. So the following day I followed up with a thank-you letter but the next week came and went without a call. I decided to wait another week until I followed up, and when I did I was told that no decision was made yet and that she would follow up with me shortly. I waited another 2 weeks and followed up again. This time I was thanked for following up and that the interview process was still going on. Its been over a month now since I interviewed for a position, how long does it really take to interview a bunch of candidates for the job and come to a decision? Should I wait another week and follow up again or wait to be contacted instead? I feel like I'm harassing the interviewer by constantly asking her what the status of the position is. |

If they are unsure and you are constantly in contact with them, it could eb a turn off. I would say that if they have not contacted you and it has been almost a month, give up. If you have not sent a polite thank you note to themthen do so now, and remember to do so immediately after any interview in the future. This could be a better method to remind them that you are interested than repeated phone calls.

Listen...this may sound as harassment, but as long as she tells you you should call after a week (or the hiring process is finished by then), there's nothing wrong with checking your status.
But you can also try some other way of finding out whether they have finished recruiting.
Anyway....if you ask me....it's something wrong in all this thing. They should have made a decision by now. If they didn't, it means that you might not be a valid candidate.

Hi Bananaman,
I would say you shouldn't waste your time with this company even if you sound so enthusiastic about it. To me it looks as if they wouldn't know how to deal with their candidates in a very professional way.
If they would have been convinced that you are the perfect match they would have already offered you the job. If they keep on postponing their reply to you it means they are still looking for someone more suitable.... but see it as a sign ... that there might be even a better job offer for you somewhere. And in the end who knows .... if they promise you to call you back and they don't do it, how trustworthy are they? Can you rely on them of being paid at the end of the month? Who knows .....
Good luck ... |

Over a month since the interview happened and they didn't call back? The job must be occupied for over two weeks now. It's clear they don't have a professional way of handling the recruiting process. Move on and don't stop applying for other jobs. Never wait, even if you are 99% sure you'll get a job after an interview. Keep applying. It's better to reject an offer than to wait and wait and the offer not to come for various reasons.

Bravo!
That's the very reason I never send "thank you" notes after an interview. After hundreds of interviews in my lifetime, I can count on my fingers the numbers of times I've actually been contacted to be told I did NOT get the job. |
