Hello fellas,
I've been looking for a new career for some time, after leaving Auto industry and graduating college recently.
This is not my first time to CVtips.com but it is my first + very important question.
I'm looking for some quick advice since I have some mixed feelings on a present situation.
Few days ago I received a job offer with company X as a Customer Service Technician and I'm suppose to start in 2 weeks w/training.
On the other hand, I have a 2nd interview with company Y as a Sales Territory Manager in 2 weeks as well ! (since the Hiring Manager is away)
Company Y is my ideal career choice since they offer more opportunites, better pay etc. I am also familiar with their product and service, and know someone that works for that company as well. So there's a good chance that I may get this job, but there's no guarantee !
I am not going to neglect company Y and I have to find a way to attend that 2nd interview, without ruining the relationship w/company X.
What should I do ?
How do I pull this off ?
We are in difficult economical times and I can not afford to be unemployed any longer. |

I'd say keep it to yourself. Your are not guarenteed the job with company Y so why make it look like your not committed to the company from day one. First impressions count and it won't be a great impression if you look like the sort of person who can't commit.
If you do end up getting the job with company Y then so be it. You can leave your post with company X and tell them you don't think things are working out and that you have been offered something more suitable.
If you don't get the better job then you will be able to carry on working at company Y without anyone at the company getting the wrong impression of you.
Good luck with everything. |

I'm with the crowd on this one.
Definitely keep it to yourself. Just tell company X you have a prior engagement and go to the interview with company Y.
If you do tell X and don't get the job with Y you've shot yourself in the foot. |

Wow,
this was very helpful !! sorry that I made it more complicated by using X and Y but I wanted to keep the names confidential.
I hope that things turn out positive, and I will let you guys know of the outcome
Thank you very much ! |

I would certainly suggest accepting the job with the first company and then if you get your dream job then thats great.
when negotiating salary make sure that you are ready to back up why they should pay you because to an extent at the moment they have not seen anything from you. maybe it is best to try and get it into the contract that if you meet certain targets or are there for a certain time then you should receive a pay rise. did you find the job yourself or through an agency? |
