My current company is on their last leg and I am looking for a change of pace. After posting my resume on Monster, I received many calls from several different insurance sales companies. Some are listed as top Fortune 500. There are big differences between the protocals. Some have small salaries, some provide "referrals" and lead basis to build your market on, and some are commission based only, but all promise to make serious money in a short period of time.

They all require contracts. Some say I will be an independent contractor and others say an employee. But the process and the recruiter pitch are all about the same. Quick interview set ups, very vague conversations and a dumb internet questionairre which seems to ask.."How much Abuse I am willing to take to make the Big Bucks." What's the deal with these Insurance and Finance Groups. Are they legit and a good opportunity to make 70-80k. That's pretty much what I make now.

From the outside looking in, I smell a pyramid scam in it's most general form and under the guise of a thriving company. One of these companies has a very well known blimp and another one has a duck as it's spokesman. Is this the Amway of Sales in an insurance form??? Sopping me up for leads from my friends and family only to have me fail and fall behind in my bills after my acquaintances start to get sick of telling them how much critical care insurance and life insurance should be a priority????

Please tell me what;s the deal hear before I make a career misstep.

I have wondered that. Maybe you can ask one of their employees at an interview to give you exact details on the career path they had to travel and see if any more clues are offered to you as to whether or not it is a pyramid scheme? Reluctance to let you ask another employee questions about their career path should make you worried. Another idea is to get ahold of the better business bureau and see what you can find out exactly.
