I have been sending out resumes for a while now. There is one company that struck out at me when they replied my email. They said the position I was looking for was recently filled, but they offered me another position. This position is a work-at-home position and the pay is really good! So I told them I was interested and they sent me a contract listing out the terms and conditions. The company is called WEBBCOM (http://webbcom.net/). They asked me to sign if (if I was interested) and send it back to them. The thing is, the Chief is located in Russia, so I guess they want to start a business in Canada.

The company, based on the website, seems legit, but the fact they offered me a job without an interview seems a bit weird. Perhaps it is not weird, but I have never had this experience before and just want to check with someone who knows more about the job market. Is this business sketchy?

One of the contract terms: The Company keeps the right to require a full compensation from the Employee in case of
infringement of any of the paragraphs of the present contract or if Employee's wrong actions will
affect the Company reputation or will put the financial damage to the Company.

So if I was paid for the months of Aug and Sept, and then some conflict occurs in November, does that mean they take away my money from Aug and Sept?

***EDIT: I just realized I may have posted it in the wrong forum. If so, moderators, feel free to re-locate****

There's not much on this site in terms of scams. I could only get one page, and it didn't seem relevant. Half of the page was for something called Web.com, not this one, too. The only thing related to Webb.com was something that looked like a Bible bashing exercise, with an executive called Mark Walter as the contact.

If they're talking about payment through PayPal, or some other reliable source, it means they're a verified buyer, which is OK, so far.

It's not entirely out of the ballpark that they might see your CV and think another job is more appropriate. These contracts are tougher than they look. You'll find somewhere in there a termination clause, covering their position. Depending on the nature of the work a clause holding employees responsible for any damage also isn't unusual. It's a legitimate audit requirement, covering the company for loss, and the person doing the hiring. They don't actually need to do an interview, with this sort of coverage. They'll see how you go.

From a bona fide online employer, you can expect to see:

1. Regular feedback
2. Payment on time, at the stated rate
3. Regular updates and new info
4. No long silences about your questions (That's maddening. You have to ask if it's worth it, when you don't get responses in a timely way. It also means inefficient, if the wait is too long for you.)

The level of currency in information you receive from the employer is a reliable indicator of how good they are. I've done a lot of these jobs, and the good guys are the ones who are truly on the ball.

This looks OK, but for the record, one of my policies is to shut down if payment isn't received on time. Under the terms of contract, they're obliged to pay. The contract isn't operational, and they're in breach, if they don't.

Thanks for the info Pauloz.

I have decided not to pursue this job as Bible-bashing is offensive and insulting to me. Further, I have just received a job offer at a company and at this moment, I would prefer to work on site, rather than at home.

Hey, well done! After all that, you've come out ahead, I'd say. If you were getting the Bible bashing, you'll be interested to hear that a lot of this stuff is now very common among scam artists. Better off steering clear.

Personal opinion: Avoid like the plague, if it's the guy I saw. What I saw from this guy Walter is something I've also seen on rental scams. It's all scripted, quotes from the Bible in between interesting remarks about money and setting things up.

Just as I thought. I wasn't the only one who thought this company sounded a little sketchy. However regarding Paulozs' comments, I was wondering where did you come across the mentioned Bible-Bashing and also what did you mean by "What I saw from this guy Walter". Please elaborate.

I approached someone about a rental property in Sydney, and in reply received all these protestations of Christian charity. I checked the messages, and sure enough found exact quotes on a scam report. The people involved turned out to be well know American exiles who are famous for their rental ripoffs, it's just that they haven't changed the text in their messages.
I checked out the original link, searched the company, and found what looked like a sermon written by the guy.

Much the same thing happened when I checked out the original link in elliotforgames' post, and then searched the company. Another scam report, with another "sermon" as a message from Walter, again referring to Christian values. I'd say they're either targeting Christians, or trying to look good by using this material. In both cases, they were semi-literate. It was almost chapter and verse of the first scam I saw.
