I'm in PA and I just filed my last regular bi-weekly claim, but only had one week's worth of money in it. I should qualify for EUC benefits , but I need to know if there is a time gap between when I'll get them and how long. Supposedly in Pennsylvania they automatically sign you up for EUC but their website is horrible and doesn't say how long it takes. Will it be fast and the second week I filed for in my last bi-weekly claim will just come out of the EUC, or will I have to file again at a later date? Has anybody had experience starting EUC in PA?

Also, is filing for EUC every 2 weeks pretty painless, or do you have to jump through more hoops than regular UI claims?

You're going to need some local knowledge here, but from our members' experience, PA applications tend to work on conveyor belts, and the big numbers of people have made it a difficult, edgy, process.

We've had a lot of people trying to get information about basic UC, and they've found the best approach is to just file the application, if you want to get attention.

This is the PA DLI's FAQ page.

http://www.dli.state.pa.us/landi/cwp/view.asp?a=152&Q=250855

Regarding the lodgments, check out the FAQ on the subject of Tier 1 and 2. The story there is that you get checked out for eligibility, which can be a slower than usual process because of volumes and complexity. I know because I used to work in government, and it's all bureaucratic nitpicking, with any initial application for anything.

You would be advised to expect a gap, even if there's not supposed to be one. The other common experience in PA is that things don't move fast if anything goes off the rails.

Suggest:

1. Lodge application to get attention.
2. The redeeming feature of PA DLI is that they do get in contact with initial apps by phone, so you'll get some time and info.

Note: Direct phone contact from outside isn't their strong suit. Apparently they put more time into dealing with apps to find out what they need to know, hence the suggestion. Because EUC has a few hoops of its own at their end, you're more likely to get contact from them, than if you try to ring them.

Just plan ahead for some delays, and you should be OK.

Well I found out my answer very quickly. At 7am on Memorial Day (the day after I filed my last regular claim) I logged in online, checked my benefit information section, and my new 20 weeks balance worth of tier 1 payments was listed and EUC was listed next to my weekly rate. I checked to see when I can file next and it's the 31st, so I won't have a gap. It looks like they took care of everything faster than I could ever have imagined. It's a huge relief. Now if only they would actually communicate things better.

Wow. That's almost the first good bit of information we've had from PA in some time. Usually it's problems.

Haha, well I haven't filed for/gotten my first EUC payment yet so you never know, but so far it looks good.

Resurrecting an old thread....

I am currently on my original 26 weeks of UC scheduled to end on the 13th of September when I will file for my final one week. From what I understand, I will automatically be enrolled in Tier 1 and will be able to file for that the following Sunday or is there a 'waiting period' for the transition?

The DL website has information on what is going on with the program but seems not to have information on what to expect once regular UC ends. Yes, they tell you that you should receive a letter within 10 days, but does not say much about when you actually receive anything else.

Thanks
