Aren't you Americans supposed to lodge those W forms? There should be an IRS record of those.

The situation is that there should be a very long paper trail proving any claim of employment. If any payments at all were made to you, they should be on record. Employers are required by law to keep these records for a statutory period.

I'd suggest either a subpoena or an FOI application to the IRS to obtain records of your employment. The tax returns should show a lot of relevant information.
There should also be other information contained on employer records, like HR files, etc.

If there's an IRS record, and none of the other materials, they're in a lot of trouble. Suggest you give priority to finding this evidence.

Important: There should also be your private records of payments received, etc. This is all reliable information. If necessary, DLI can request information from your bank and IRS regarding these matters. Try and get a pro bono lawyer to take up your case.
