I recently started a new job in marketing and was offered in the right way by letter an offer of employment. I left my old job as the new one was better pay and hours worked. In my first week I struggled to perform and my results were inferior. On the Friday of the first week my boss told me that he would probably be unable to meet the wage he had offered me and that from the following Monday I would only be paid on a commission basis. that meant no basic salary but i would be paid on results. For example if i produced new business I would be paid. If not i would not be paid.

Your thoughts on this situation please.

Whoa. I would be pulling out the offer letter and seeing if that or your employment contract has a clause hidden in it somewhere that allows for this. SOunds very unfair, if they promised you something different and after a week are changing their minds already. Makes me wonder what else could happen.

You could try to get your old job back? Or, start looking for another one. I don't think I would trust these guys.

Thank you for that speedy reply.
I actually did acknowledge in writing that I would accept the job offer and i was fully agreeable to the offer. i replied to the job offer immediately.
I am not in possession of a contract.
Is their any legal requirement involved here regarding the behaviour of my Employer.

I have also made enquiries with my Ex Employer who is thinking over the possibility of re-employing me.

Yeah, you got screwed. Cut your losses and get out of there. I went through this just once--went back exactly one week later and my boss was standing there, waiting for me. He'd never officially terminted my employment 'cause he said he knew I'd be back.
