Hello everyone,

This is my first time posting! I hope we'll be able to help each other out.

Anyway, about a month ago I applied for a position with a company via email with a resume and cover letter. I received an email immediately saying they'd contact me if I match, and that they'd keep my resume for a year.

I have not received any contact from them since. And the email also explicitly stated not to call or email them about my application.

Now I see that there is a new opening for a DIFFERENT position with the same company. I really think I'm a good match for this position, even more so than the previous one. In addition, my cover letter is different and my resume has changed a bit.

My question is: do I go ahead and send a new resume/cover letter. If so, do I need to mention that I've applied for a different position before, or just apply as if I'm new?

Since you have had some significant changes to your resume and your cover letter, and this is a different position, I would go ahead and resend it. Sometimes internal players change and a new person is doing the job, or multiple people are in HR, or even things just happen and you might have been misplaced or deleted. Resend it as if you were new.

Agree with lexa this, could be a big organisation and the decision makers could change. So re-send it. You have to make sure that the new resume does not differ to much from the old one, there is the possibility that some one will compare them.

Absolutely.

I'd go ahead and reapply as if you're new. I can't see any issues with this as employers can be guilty of saying they'll "keep your CV on file" and forget to look at those when new jobs come up.

I'd say go ahead and send in your details.
