Good Afternoon,

My name is Justin, and I'm a twenty year old college student from Ohio. I've lived here my whole life, and I live with my great grandparents about ten minutes away from where I go to school. I'm going into my second year this fall. I'm currently studying Criminal Justice. I was thinking of becoming a police officer, or maybe go into something federal, such as the FBI or the CIA, maybe become a Federal Marshal or the Secret Service. To be honest I'm not really sure what I want to do. I know that it's kind of weird to be asking for career advice when I don't even have a career, but I want to figure out where I'm headed. I don't really have much job experience. I've worked a couple months at a few different places, [a restaurant, and a target] but that's about it.

It is not strange to be asking about career advice, nor is it weird that you have not got your mind set on a career. I am not sure about mine entirely, and even after someone may have started their career, this does not mean that they will change their mind.

Try to research careers you are interested in and go from there.

As Lexa stated, this is not a strange question whatsoever. Many of us go through a string of careers before we find where we are a perfect fit. The best thing to do is use the internet as your friendly tool to research different fields and see what interests you most. From there, go ahead and look for internships at companies that seem favorable to you. Trying out different positions may help you decide what you do and/or don't want. You're twenty and don't know what you want to be when you grow up and I'm 56 and still have no idea what I want to be when I grow up, so I gave up on the whole farce called "growing up" in the first place.

Face it: All this talk about "perfect jobs" and "perfect careers" and all the rest of perfect-this and perfect-that is crap, plain and simple. Find that "perfect" job and chances are you'll be stuck in a miserable relationship. Find that "perfect" and true love and you'll probably hate what you do to earn a buck or two.

To be perfectly blunt, it annoys the hell out of me that everything has been reduced to the simple notion--and blatant lie--that you will find nirvana and live happily ever after only if and when you find that "perfect" career. The most miserable people I've ever had both the fortune and misfortune to know are those who, after a life spent in that "perfect" career, awaken one day to realize they've also had the most miserable lives imaginable.

Life is for living and working is only what we must do to get by from day to day. There's no difference between driving a truck or chasing bad guys and hunting saber-tooted tigers. The only problem is that these days we're having to put up with a bunch of Fred Flintstones armed with laptops.

I.E., stop worrying so much about something that's such a basic, simplistic, and natural part of our existence on this planet. These are the matters that take care of themselves if--and only if--you direct your focus on those other things that truly do matter: Family, friends, kindness to strangers.

Hey Justin I think you are not targeted at this time. I should suggest you that first you need to set some targets for yourself and then you will gain some level of confidence. Actually this is the best and the most important time for you to figure out where you wish to head to.......in your life. And for this if you think you need to go to a career coach or coundseller then you must visit without any hesitation.
