Have you redid your resume if it needs it, small thing like that? Because it could be making a difference. That, and examine how well you tend to do in interviews. Don't give up yet, the economy is just tough in many places of the world right now. Keep trying!

I can't get a job either. I guess no one wants to employ an inexperienced 18 yr old. However, I have been offered a job in Cyprus. Just a suggestion, why not work abroad?

Companies get all sorts of tax breaks and incentives for hiring "certain" types of people. Of course, y'all already know that.

You can disect and discuss all the legitimate factors that go along w/ your most valid and accurate observations, experiences, and complaints. Y'all are young and can't get anyone to take you seriously. I'll be 56 in a couple of days and guess what I have to hear? Overqualified, too much experience, too many jobs in the past blah blah blah

It's the oldest of contradictions in this country:

1. You can't get experience without a job and you can't get a job without experience.
2. You can't get credit without a good credit history and you can't get a credit history without someone first giving you some credit.

This is where y'all--the younger folks--enter the picture. This country is f*d up and there's no nicer way to say it. So here's the dirty little secret: Do NOT play by their rules. Change the damned thing, slowly, one person at a time. And as y'all begin to be in "those" positions of so-called power and authority, remember how perplexing and screwed up it was and vow to never repeat the mistakes of the past.

But what you're really running into is nothing more than the most basic of human dilemmas: You, each of you, as individuals, are coming face to face with other peole, each of whom are individuals. Each brings his/her own preconceived notions about, well, about everything.

Over-simplified, it's the truth that most hiring decisions are made within the first five minutes of the interview! That's just enough time to say "Nice to meet you and gee, you think it'll rain?" After that, their minds are pretty well made up and no matter whether you can bullshit your way through that silly game called the "job interview" or if, like me, you prefer honesty of character and just say it like it is, the "secret" of finding not just "any" job, but one that might eventually make you not hate every working moment of your life, is simply to keep looking.

What you're really looking for is not a "job" but the person, and people, with you just sort of "connect," and they with you. Over fifty employers later and I still have no clue what I want to be when I grow up, but I do know this: I've never given a tinker's damn what the duties of the job were--I can and have done most everything. What does matter is whether or not I can get along with co-workers, and they with me.

Conventional wisdom says "do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life". Well, there's truth in that, I suppose. But if you're doing what you love and are surrounded by people who make you want to cover yourself in honey and jump into a mound of fire ants, you're still going to hate every minute you spend doing the thing you love, don't you think?

The universe, the cosmos, that "something out there bigger than ourselves" has the most surprising way of intervening on our behalf when we least expect. You, of course, have the hard part: Being patient and continuing to look.

It's been like this for me:

Good employment, like love, always finds me, never the other way around.

Nothing but the best and yes, y'all are indeed going to be fine. But again, regardless of how wildly successful and rich and powerful you might become, never, ever forget THESE days. If and when you do that, you have, as far as I'm concerned, truly "grown up," meaning you've given up all your real dreams and ambitions as to what matters most in life and it damned sure ain't a job and money.

I wouldn't give up hope. Try and find out a few more details after the interviews as to why they think you weren't suitable for the job. Maybe they can give you some tips on what you can do to get into that industry.

If you are lacking experience then maybe you want to consider doing some unpaid work for a company. This will make you more employable and you may even be taken on by the company you have been working for...

There's actually two dirty little secrets at work here.

The first is that you rarely find that "good" job; rather it finds you. It's much like "finding" true love.

The second are the immortal words of Mick Jagger, paraphrased: You might not find that "perfect" job you want, but chances are you will indeed find the one you need!

Relax and give the universe a chance to work on your behalf. Kind of difficult for that to happen when we're so damned busy trying to control each and every moment and aspect of our lives.

Yes, I know, that's purely anathema to a world hell-bent on worshipping the great green god of money but these days I don't much care who gets upset at me.....

That's a despondent, bellicose attitude, have you tried looking for a specialist entry level job agency. This is one for the UK:

www.fusejobs.co.uk

They specialize in taking in people who are looking to get a foothold on the job ladder but just can't find any luck.

There's been so much attention in the USA to job boards, Monster.com, etc. and online resumes.

Those are key, but in smaller businesses, relationships lead to over half of all hires.

So use yours!

Ask some friends and people who respect you (if you're 18, ask your friends' parents) who needs work.

Another great trick: Snoop around to find companies that just got funding i.e. a new bank loan to grow, or venture capital investment.

Good luck!
