hi all
i left my last job after 7days and being applying for jobs but not had any luck.
i need help with reasons why i left my last job.
at the interview stage i offered what looked like a great job with lots of opportunity. but from my first day onwards i soon learnt otherwise.
i was told on my first day that they are all false promises and that there are 10other people in the same line as me waiting for promotion...and they only offering one promotion! not what i was told at interview stage - was told that may be offered in6months and they promote people all the time
i didnt like the job from day one too - i was put with people who were in posts below me and they were teaching me what to do - ie i had education and qualifications and being made to do things that the juniors should be doing and the juniors doing the work i should be.
i was hardly ever given new work to do - when the boss asked if i knew how to do something and i sed no - they would never teach me - they would give it to someone else
i spoke to HR and this and they sed coz its really busy thats why - i still didntnotice a change
another issue - my contract
my contract had clasues in it that i thought were unreasonable . i was the only one in the firm that had a clause saying work every sat - noone works every sat - they work in rotation - i pointed that out and they chnaged it- then the senior partner told me i had to sign my contract today! and gave me time to read it
when i read it - it said that i cannot give notice to terminate the employment contract in the first 12months of my contract despite having another clause outlining my notice period of 4 weeks - ie wouldnt be able to leave until 13months!
if i was happy from day one and wasnt given false promises i would have agreed but my employers were unwilling to negotiate terms so i didnt sign it and left my job
issue 3 - travel
there was only 1 train every hour - cost £70 for 7 days, and it takes 1hr20mins to get there
by car takes 1hr15mins. but always get local traffic!
what do i tell new employers...i dont wana come across as someone who moans...coz i dont!
i got an interview and the travel is 1hr15mins but there are very frequent trains and its cheaper to get there and its a job i really want...help please |

That contract sounds suspicious. Usually there's a termination clause. Read it again, see if you can find the provisions for termination. I don't think you can be held to a contract with no comeback on your side.
Obviously, this situation has upset you, you're unhappy, and you've been having difficulty making sense of the situation. Understandable, particularly if everyone else is on a different contract, and you're not being given any useful, or even meaningful, information.
What feels wrong about this is that you've been getting a different deal from day one. This may be an experimental contract. They may be trying out a new thing, and you're the guinea pig.
The trouble is that it is a contract. You're right to be careful about this situation, you need to know any possible liabilities.
Suggest you check out with a lawyer any obligations on your part.
I doubt if you can be forced into staying, despite the terms of the contract, but you may be signing yourself into a problem.
Bear in mind, if you're not happy, sooner or later you will leave, so you have to be sure what you're getting yourself into. |

Hi ap85,
I think you have your answer in the explanation. State that you were misled about the terms of the job and prospects of advancement. After learning of this, you still tried to work through it, but further concerns appeared while working. Rather than continuing to work for a shady company, you realized it was simply not worth it. So instead you are looking for employer that doesn't lie to their employees. Based on your research, you can even say that is why you sent your resume to such and such firm. I don't this approach will hurt you at all because you are being honest in your answer which will give you strength and confidence in the interview. Also, I think a respectable employer would find this admirable. If the employer has a problem with this, I would be concerned that maybe this company was also a shady one. Either way, your best course of action is to be direct in your answer and don't get caught up in too much bad mouthing. Just simply state your answer and move on to how you can help that company.
Hope this helps,
Mark McCormick
