Hi,

I posted another topic about this earlier and now I have some different questions. Can some of you military people tell me your jobs in the military and explain why they are good?

Hi again Brandon,

The term you are looking for is MOS (Military Occupation Specialties). For example, my specialty is construction engineering. I’ve already explained to you why I love it.

Brandon,

I have been a trumpet player in the Army Band for a few months and I love it. It is a great way to travel around and get to play your instrument. Of course, this is all dependent on whether or not you play an instrument!

Cheers!

I am a watercraft operator in the army. I basically operate and supervise Army watercraft. You have to be quite fit for this job as it is physically demanding, believe it or not. But Brandon, there are literally hundreds of MOS’s out there. The only way you can choose is through research.

I work in explosive ordinance disposal. We are trusted with locating and making explosive devices safe. Personally, I do not work with chemical explosives but there are men and women who do that as well. I agree with Marie—research it. Also, you might want to talk to a recruiter.

I chose my career in the air force two ways.

One, I knew I wanted electronics.
Two, I chose the path that required the MOST schooling.

I went this route because I figured I would get the most education out of it.

It transfered very well into civilian life.

If you do something with explosives or guns or what not, then good luck finding a civilian job doing that. Not saying that it will be inpossible, but it is something to think about.

Let me tell you this advice too: no matter what the description of the job is, it is really not that complicated. The jargon makes every job seem like a million bucks.

Military "ages" you. You become a reliable worker. This is one reason you can get jobs afterwords, you are trusted.
