The task is to imagine your ideal day. For the best results, don't limit yourself. Give yourself permission to do or be anything you want. This is your day--you don't have to please anyone but yourself! Here's how to get started.
Find somewhere quiet and comfortable where you won't be disturbed. Sit or lie down, close your eyes, breath deeply and relax.
Ask yourself "If I could do anything, anywhere--what would it be? Where would I live? In what part of the world? In what type of home? Who would I share it with? What kind of work would I do? Who do I work with? What would I do for fun and relaxation?
Imagine as much detail as you can when you answer these questions. See the picture of your ideal day in your mind's eye. Notice how you're feeling as you do this.
When you're ready, open your eyes and write down or record everything you can remember about your day on a sheet of paper or in your journal (a notebook or voice recorder where you record your thoughts and feelings)
Try this exercise several times, over several days in different moods.
Review the day you've described in your journal. What do they have in common? What do they tell you about yourself? What do they say about what's important to you? What do they tell you about how you'd like to spend your time?
How do these days you've designed relate to your life right now? Are you already living parts of your ideal day? What parts could you reach for right now? What parts could you build your career on, over the long-term? |
