Hi,

I am from India. I left my English teaching job 5 years ago due to personal reason. Now after a long time I am looking for a teaching job. But I do not know what should I say why I left my last job and my long-term absence from job in interview.

Thanks
Shamus

Take the truth and gloss it over a little. If you left for health reasons, or for family reasons, then saying something like this but not going into detail is acceptable. Actually, employers don''t want to hear the painful details in most cases. Give a good solid reason and that's all you need to do, leave the details to yourself.

Hi Shamus,

I agree with Alexa's post. I would add one thing. It is perfectly ok to say you took some time off to figure out what you wanted to do with the rest of your life. If you are going back to a teaching job, state you want to make absolutely sure that teaching was the field for you. If you are going to another type of position, state how this new field is what you want to do with the rest of your life. Basically, you want to show how it was actually a wise decision on your part to take the time off as it gave you time to assess where you wanted to go with your life.

Hope this helps,
