There have been recent news items and a general scuttlebutt in the industry that cruise ships aren't always good places to work.
Incidents include poor wages, living conditions, and a lack of good employer management. Some cases of violence and sexual harassment have been reported. That includes some of the big names in cruise travel, so any job should be well checked out beforehand.
Conditions vary widely across the industry, and I'd have to say I've heard nothing encouraging, particularly for a solo female traveling alone.
I doubt, also, that there's much scope for a single voyage approach. She'd be getting a job, and with that would come commitment to the job. So, yes, the return voyage would be part of the job.
Frankly, I'd give the whole idea a wide miss. I'd also suggest that she doesn't put herself in any situation where travel involves job hopping, and she's in a position she can't get herself out of easily.
Global travel can be dangerous, as well as expensive, and there are some risks just not worth taking.
Strongly advise if she wants to travel that all travel expenses are covered before going anywhere. Open tickets will do most of the time management for her. |
